N.C. Coastal Management to conduct training for local permit officers
The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management (DCM) will conduct a fall training workshop Oct. 14-15 in Manteo for local permit officers in the northern region of their 20 coastal-county service area.
Cooperative state and local government programs are an important component of the Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA). Locally adopted Implementation and Enforcement Plans allow local governments to process CAMA minor permits in-house, giving them an active role in the management of the coastal resources within their jurisdictions, as well as providing an additional public service to residents.
Participants at the workshop will learn about:
- Estuarine System AECs (Coastal Shoreline and Coastal Wetlands)
- Ocean Hazard and Inlet Hazard AECs
- The Permitting Process, E-Permitting & CAMA Major Permits Updates
- NC Resilient Coastal Communities Program, Access Grants and Planning Updates
- Sea Turtle and Shorebirds Nesting Moratorium for Oceanfront Activities
- Compliance and enforcement
- Field work on identifying coastal wetland lines/NWL and field indicators delineations, Section 404 wetlands, dune system and first line of stable natural vegetation (FLSNV) vs. Planted vegetation
